United besegrade Newcastle med 3-0 i ligapremiären och det var förstås nöjda hemmaspelare som pratade med pressen efter matchen.

KOMMENTARER EFTER MATCHEN
Sir Alex Ferguson var belåten efter matchen som han tycker att United kontrollerade. Han hyllade förstås Uniteds mittfältsgeni Paul Scholes som äntligen fick vara skadefri förra säsongen. Ferguson tycker dock att United missade för många chanser och singlade, igen, ut Dimitar Berbatov för kritik på den fronten men tillade att Berbatovs insats var formidabel.

Motståndarens manager Chris Houghton inser att United är fler klasser bättre än Newcastle och pratade om vikten av att hålla siffrorna nere.

It is always a daunting task coming here and all you can do is restrict the opportunities they have and I think we did that for periods of the game. I think with them having so much of the ball and the quality they have got you just don’t want to concede again. For us the important thing was to come out of today with some credit going into what is an important game [against Aston Villa] next week.

Paul Scholes blev, precis som mot Chelsea i Community Shield, utsedd till matchens bästa spelare och pratade om vikten av att vinna. Han tyckte också att Giggs mål var vackert att se.

The most important thing is to win the game. Maybe we could have scored more but we’ll take a 3-0 win on the first day of the season. Newcastle came, set their stall out and defended deep. Once we got the goal we were a constant threat. A lot of teams come here and try to make it difficult. We just had to tire them out as much as we could. Second half especially, I really enjoyed that. Creating chances, looking like we were going to score whenever we went forward.

¤ Sir Ryan Giggs gjorde mål, vilket betyder att han nu har gjort mål i 21 raka ligasäsonger, fullkomligt makalöst. Den historielösa påpekar att han är den enda spelaren som har gjort mål i samtliga Premier League-säsonger och utelämnar två säsonger med mål från Giggs.
¤ Patrice Evra skippade försäsongen och gick rakt in i startelvan när det säsongen började på riktigt. Han fick en smäll i slutet av matchen och blev utbytt men allt tyder på att han hade kunnat fortsätta spela.
